Eric had lain, stoic on his deathbed, and a strange and beautiful demon saw through his warrior's mask. For all his people's talk of bravery and the joys of Valhalla, there was nothing Eric wouldn't do for precious life to continue. Courageous surrender was easy when hope had gone, but Godric had known -- a great warrior did not court death for its own sake, but fought because he wanted to Live.

And so Eric Northman had accepted that demon's dark kiss, and was freed from Death's interference. How could he know a mere millennium would be long past enough?
