PORN!

That got your attention, huh? *G*

You know, I've mentioned a few times lately how much I LOVE the new Star Trek movie -- obviously, or I wouldn't be dipping my foot into the fandom. I've watched my downloaded cam copy a dozen times, and I've loved it more and more each time. I have the release date of the DVD marked on my calendar.

Right now I'm reading the novelization, and I love THAT even more -- more story, more insight into the characters. I know it's not necessarily canon, but MAN. I need to get a hold of this in paperback, because it's one of those books I want to own, physically, you know? I want to have it on my bulging bookshelf and be able to pull it out and leaf through the pages. The writing isn't fantastic, but it adds so much RICHNESS to the story I already love.

If you're interested: Star Trek Movie Tie-In by Alan Dean Foster

Plus, if you like Kirk/McCoy, you'll love it. Their interactions are the best.

~

Hey, speaking of Star Trek -- WRITING ALIEN PORN IS REALLY DIFFICULT! I mean... what do you call the parts? It's hard enough when you know exactly what they are and the various things they can be called! What if your porn star is not human? I've already established some physiological differences that are helpful rather than hindering, but... I'm still stuck in a couple of places.

... Later...

Okay, I just sort of winged it through, and... MY FIRST KINK FIC IS DONE! Well, the first draft is done, anyway. I'm always nervous writing in a new fandom, ESPECIALLY this one. ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY with a species that we don't really know that much about, physiologically. It will need a bit more work, but if anyone is interested in giving it a once over beta, I would be thrilled. It's Star Trek 2009, Gaila/Kirk, NC-17, mildly kinky (the kink is suspension), I guess, I don't know... there's zero gravity involved (WHICH I RESEARCHED!). Any takers? I'll be closing it up for tonight and taking another look tomorrow, but if you want a glance at the first draft to give me some notes, that would be awesome.

I'm still on schedule so far for [info - community] kink_bingo! Hmmmm. What should I work on next? I should probably go on with my next Gaila fic, since I'm already running in that direction anyway. *G* What a hardship.

HAHAHAHA! This just in from KTNZ News!

Aug. 1st, 2009

A writing challenge... for myself!

Okay, guys. It's August 1. I'm looking at my commitments and buckling down for some serious writing.

The big one on my mind right now is [info - community] kink_bingo -- bingos are due by August 31. I have THIRTY days to finish a bingo. I have a 9 story bingo planned, plus a 5 story double line and a one story postage stamp. That's FIFTEEN kinky stories in thirty days. That means TWO kinky stories a day, minimum 500 words each.

Think I can do it? I mean, I know I can write 500 words a day, but can I write 500 words a day that anyone will want to READ? (You would ask this question too if you saw my NaNo manuscript from last year.)

What I would love to do (after I finish bingos within the alloted time) is do black-outs (all the kinks on the card) for Gaila and B/A. Wouldn't it be fun to see if I could get 25 kinky B/A stories? I'll never have time for it, but a girl can dream.

ANYWAY... FIFTEEN Stories. THIRTY days. That is my challenge. It would, unfortunately, make a very, very boring reality show.

~

Hahahaha. Speaking of [info - community] kink_bingo, I downloaded one of the soundtracks they offered, and I'm right now listening to the AWESOME Dr. Hook's "Freaking at the Freaker's Ball". I fucking LOVE this song. So does my dad -- he's a huge Dr. Hook fan. He used to play this song when I was a KID. I mean, I didn't know what it meant, but there I was, 9 years old, singing about masochists and necrophiliacs and smearing someone with butter. LOL. No wonder I'm so weird!

~

Watching the first episode of The Legend of the Seeker. I've read the first four or five of the books, and I have to say, the series is a LOT easier to follow. LOL. I love the books, but man are they dense and complicated. This show is more like... Wizard's First Rule meets Hercules: The Legendary Journies. I'm okay with that. One thing they have in common? Kahlan is BAD ASS.

Okay, back to work. Gaila and Kirk are waiting. *G*

You guys, I got NOTHING done today. WTF? I'm trying to figure out where the time went. I took some notes on my ongoing [info - community] kink_bingo extravaganza, typed a few lines on some unfinished B/A fic, read a few short fics, went to AO3 Tester Training, watched two episodes of TOS (one while eating dinner), did a little community revamping (opened [info - community] ducksfanfic and [info - community] buffy_angel at Dreamwidth. Made a couple of Gaila graphics...

Yeah, I see where the day went. Sigh. I just can't be trusted to manage my own time properly.

OMG U GYZ! I'm all addicted to Star Trek TOS and shit. I had no idea it had such a dry, sarcastic sense of humor about itself. I mean, the sexism and racism is icky, but I bet still better than most shows of it's day. Or so I imagine, since there are people of color on there AT ALL, and women in uniform (skimpy though it may be, they're officers), and my knowledge of TV in the 60's is pretty limited to this and Batman.

HOT DRAGON ACTION! Or, er... actually, not.

Adopt one today! (BJPinky) Adopt one today! (TBJessica)

So I decided, since Jessica is all grown up (and we all know that females should have BABIES, as this is their only purpose in life!), I should breed her. And guest commentator [info - livejournal.com] frozenproduce suggested mating her with one of my pink fellas. Well, I mean, they're cute pink dragons with tidy wings and large show tune collections, so you can probably guess what happened. I introduced Pinky and Jessica, and they.... went "meh." And absolutely no Dragon Smexing whatsoever took place. *Sigh* Now I have to wait another day and try with Rosey. Maybe he'll "Show interest" in her?

Tune in tomorrow for AS THE DRAGONS... er... TURN? FLAP? SPEW FIRE? I dunno.

~

HAHAHAHA! Check out "The Honeymoon of Dean and Castiel" hahahaahhaahaha.

BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHA.

~

So... [info - livejournal.com] gabrielleabelle has a poll: Is B/A subversive? Does it subvert itself in canon? And seeing as how her entire FList seems to be Spuffies and B/A negative people, I BEG ONE OF OUR MORE ELOQUENT FANS ([info - livejournal.com] margotlefaye, are you out there? If I had a D Signal, I would flash it at you! And OH HOW I MISS HARPY RIGHT NOW!) TO EXPLAIN WHY B/A IS NOT *insert same old generally dismissive and insulting crap about B/A here*.

Keep your tone polite if you answer. Notice I didn't answer, because my answer would mostly be "OMG PEOPLE STFU! IT'S NOT CLICHE! YOU SEE A LOT OF "HEROINE WITH HERO LOVE INTEREST CONSORT" IN MODERN FICTION DO YOU? SEE TWO HEROES PROPPING EACH OTHER UP WITH (probably impossible) DREAMS OF HOPE, HAVE YOU? ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! *throws violent tantrum, has heart attack and drops dead* And, I'm not entirely sure what she's even asking to begin with. Or why.

To Subvert (According to Webster's): 1 : to overturn or overthrow from the foundation : ruin; 2 : to pervert or corrupt by an undermining of morals, allegiance, or faith.

The Free Dictionary (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/subversive) has a more salient definition of Subversive: "subversive: Adjective - intended or intending to weaken or overthrow a government or an institution. Noun - a person engaged in subversive activities."

The thesaurus suggests "revolutionary". So... was B/A meant to destroy some fundamental tropes, as so much of what Whedon does is supposed to do? Does it destroy itself? Is it revolutionary?

I'm being a good girl, and coming back here to cry and hyperventilate and get hugs, and PLEADING for one of the many intelligent B/A Shippers on my FLIST to PLEASE offer a balanced view to that B/A hate fest over there. (They are not being mean about shippers, though, which is a nice change.) I had to leave about two comments in, and may not be able to put together a coherent answer besides "NO! WTF?" And so.

*breathes deep yoga breaths*

(Here's a puzzler: why is a Spuffy asking an Flist full of Spuffies if B/A is subversive in the first place? Don't answer that, it's just a little thought in my head.) (And hey, WHY HAVE I STILL NOT LEARNED NOT TO CLICK LINKS I KNOW WILL PROBABLY BE NOT-B/A FRIENDLY? IT'S BEEN TEN YEARS.)

Also, please don't bring up Spuffy in the discussion -- [info - livejournal.com] gabrielleabelle specifically asked people not to. It's also lame to bash another ship just to pump up your own, and not what the discussion needs.

I'm going to go throw up now.

~

You know what brought me down (or "up," I guess) AGAIN? Star Trek. I'm watching the Original Series for the first time in decades -- including the original pilot, which I've never seen before, and my blood pressure is back down, and I've just kind of... let that annoyance earlier go. Does this speak of the calming power of Star Trek? My continued over-investment in shows that have been off the air for years? Both?

Anyway -- I'm sad in a different way now. #1 in the original pilot was AWESOME. And an officer. And there's actually some surface level touching on sexism. There was an Asian fella in the transporter room! Roddenbury said in the intro that one of the reasons the original pilot was not produced was because it wasn't "cast sensibly" = too many non-whites.

Which leads me to think about IBARW and an essay I read today: Nyota Uhura is Not a White Girl or "now that we've got that clear, and you know that i'm not here..." by [info - livejournal.com] rawles. It's excellent food for thought, and a good explanation for why every time I hear someone say the word "post-racial", I want to kick them. (I'm trying to keep my temper down, because I'm dizzy! From the high blood pressure that I totally don't have! Oh, man, I'm having a total breakdown. Or else one of these new meds is making me more batshit than usual.")

Help me Original Trek (even-though-your-flaws-are-glaring-you-were-making-real-inroads-for-your-time)! Help me!

Or better yet, my beautiful, wonderful friends of all fandoms and ships and preferred characters and philosophies and temperments. I need some recs. Happy recs. Porny recs. Gaila recs. What I would love:

Porny, HEA Recs from any current fandom: True Blood, Supernatural (Dean/Castiel), Gossip Girl (Chuck/Blair or Blair/Serena), Merlin, Being Human, Star Trek XI, Kradam, and of Course, Buffy/Angel (B/A positive ONLY, please)
Eric Northman recs
Gaila/Uhura, Gaila/Kirk, or just Gaila recs (especially these -- I'm collecting links in my Delicious.
Fluffy Being Human fic (OT3 or Mitchell/Annie)
*Happy B/A or B/A Meta.*

Or write me some drabbles! Or post funny gifs. Something!

My full time job for the past couple of days has become AVOIDING any and all posts about the Supernatural and True Blood Panels at ComiCon. I do not want to be spoiled for the rest of this season of TB AT ALL, so if you saw it in that video clip, or heard it in the panel, please don't mention it around me or on [info - livejournal.com] trueblood_squee without AMPLE warning! Please. *G*

Of course, I'm very generally spoiled about Supernatural (vague season direction, casting, etc. I know there are Read more... ) but I don't know the details. With SPN, I don't mind so much getting a little spoiled -- it's the journey that's fun. But with True Blood, baby, I will EAT YOUR FACE if you spoil me. The shocks, twists and turns on this show are half the fun (the other half being my favorite characters, of course. Hi Eric! Hi!).

Anyway. /whine

Ugh. Did I say I was done whining? Because apparently, I'm not. I went to my two doctors' appointments today, and have MORE medication I have to take and MORE tests that have to be run, none of which have anything to do with my current Crohn's issues. It was 80 billion degrees with 500 percent humidity out today, and when I got home, I took my new nasal spray (which seems to really work, btw), and now I am ZOMBIE LIKE. I wanted to get some writing done or SOMETHING, but... I just don't see it happening. I should at least scrawl down some words, I can fill out the flesh tomorrow.

But man, who thought a nasal spray could make you all bablbalbalblalblblbl? (It's Astepro, for anybody who's curious.) I'll spare you more Medical TMI until I have something definite to share.

Slut the magic dragon, lived in my blog, and... didn't really do much of anything, actually.

LJ's Question of the Day: From Dr. Polidori's Lord Ruthven to Stephenie Meyer's Edward Cullen, the annals of vampire lore are filled with attractive, charming bloodsuckers. Which one would you most want to be bitten by?

Okay, everybody knows that one. Actually, I've made a few new friends lately *waves to new friends*, so how about a newly revised TOP TEN HOT VAMPIRES WHO DUCKS WOULD LIKE TO BANG WOULDN'T MIND BEING BITTEN BY?Read more... )

Seriously, I could go on and on and on forever without ever including a Twilight vampire. The father Cullen is kind of cute, but... the fact that nobody in that town ever notices how FREAKING WHITE he is just... throws me out of the fantasy. Oh, and I could make a top ten list of Sherrilyn Kenyon vampires alone, even though they're not really "vampires" per se (but they totally are).

Okay, I'm going to have to do a Top 20, I think. 11-20 Vampires that can bite me. *G* )

Man, I loves me some vampires.

Random Profile Formatting Question

If you look at my Dreamwidth profile (http://theantijoss.dreamwidth.org/profile), you can see that the bottom section, with my Goodreads Widget and Last.fm widget, is a mess. I've tried a dozen different ways to set it up, including in various table formats, but I can never get them to fit correctly or show correctly on my Profile page. Is there such thing as a cheerful "feh"?

Okay, someone needs to explain this to me. In Gmail, you have little link ads above your mailbox that are usually tied somehow to the subject lines of one of the emails. Well... I just got the weirdest, most non sequitor ad I've ever seen. It said "Severus Snape Fan? Watch Glee, this fall on Fox."

Huh? Because... Snape is going to be on Glee? Hee. That would totally rule, but I sincerely doubt it. Google is weird.

OMG You guys, you know what I just realized? This year is the tenth anniversary of both IWRY and Something Old! Okay, I need to do something to celebrate. Is there going to be an IWRY-a-thon this year, because there REALLY NEEDS TO BE! I'm currently in the process of posting ALL the chapters of Something Old to my NEW home (hopefully eventually permanent?) at The Archive of Our Own!

Yeah, I know, I shouldn't be so shocked that this completely slipped my attention all year -- half the time I don't even know what day it is unless there's something on TV. *G* But this has definitely got me thinking.

TEN YEARS, you guys, can you believe it? A DECADE OF B/A. (Well, actually 12 years, but this was a really seminal episode for fandom and fanfic. For those who weren't around back then, there were literally REAMS of fic dealing with the events of IWRY and its actual and alternate aftermaths. It inspired several stories from me, of which SO was just the biggest.)

Okay, that's just WEIRD. Actually, it's not weird at all. What's weird is that one lives two towns over and about 10 miles away from me, or at least she used to.

So I got up at the dickbase of dawn AGAIN to go see my cardiopulmonary guy. Can someone out there explain to me what the difference is between Pulmonary Medicine and Cardiology? I suppose I could Google it, but it's sort of just an idle question, since I have no doubt Medicaid wouldn't pay for both if they were redundant. ANYWAY, so for the first time in 15 years, someone is actually, ACTIVELY trying to address my eternally chronic sinus problems! I'm actually going to have a sinus CAT scan tomorrow! I have been complaining about constant congestion that almost NOTHING addresses for years now. It's part of the reason I'm still struggling with my CPAP (besides comfort issues, but really, those are bearable at this poin.) I just CAN'T use it if my nasal passages are congested, which they almost always are. He had me dump the crap Claritin D rip off the clinic's had me on for two years that does NOTHING, and is starting me on a regimin of Asotline spray and this thing that's sort of like a net pot, but less gross.

Oh well, at least my crappy clinic referred me to this guy in the first place. I really felt like I received quality health care today!

~

In closing -- you know a frakking movie ROCKS when it ROCKS HARD even as a crappy Russian cam copy. (Hi STXI! HI! When are you coming out on DVD?) Also, I JUST realized that the actor who plays Scotty is Simon Pegg from Shaun of the Dead! Wow, how slow am I?

Man, I could watch this flick a thousand times.

~

Please pet my baby dragon if you haven't already. Here's hoping she's a girl! :D

UGH!

You know what the major problem is with Weeds? A half an hour once a week is NOT ENOUGH STORY. I mean, yes, they get an AMAZING amount done in a very short time, but it's REALLY frustrating and unsatisfying to be left dangling every week.

That being said, I'm so freaking addicted, I can't stop watching. *sigh*

~

Cranky today, which is sad, since I just started playing with The Archive of Our Own (aka AO3) that I've been wanting to get involved in for months. I'm starting to archive my fic over there, so everything I've written will be in one place, and eventually I won't have to deal with the hassle of my own website. That is, assuming that this project keeps going forward -- which I really hope they do. I can't stress enough how important the Organization for Transformative Works could be for fandom, especially as the digital copyright landscape gets more and more complicated. You should check them out!

OTW: TOSsed cat needs archive

Hee. My favorite promo pic. *G*

As to why I'm grouchy after getting involved with this interesting project... well, it's old fandom stuff, I guess. It never really goes away, and the wider out in the internet world I wander, the more I run into it. I was reading some great stories at the archive, and one of them linked to the sequel at the person's LJ. They were someone I hadn't run into before, and their stuff was really funny, so I poked around a little bit, like you do. Naturally, I found lots of posts and comments and icons all bashing B/A. I just clicked back and didn't bother reading the story. I didn't see how old some of the comments and stuff were, but... I didn't really care. It made me feel bad, so I ran back here to my Safe Zone to pout. *cuddles FList*

I don't mean to whine like some kind of victim. In the big scheme of things, if that's the worst thing that happens to me all day, then I should call myself frikkin' lucky. Besides, I'm sure if I went to the right places, I would find the same kind of comments about other ships, too. Obviously I'm more sensitive to those about my original OTP (OGOTP? *G*), but man, it just punches me in the gut. I'm glad I'm just staying the hell away from any of that shite in TB fandom. I don't really ship anybody, although I like Eric/Sookie (a spillover from the books, combined with a desire to see a LOT more Eric), but I don't really dislike Bill or Sookie/Bill on the show, and I don't care who they pair Eric with, as long as we get to see his range of personality... and lots of skin. I like to poke good natured fun at Bill because he's so old-fashioned and not cool, but I don't use the funny icons, because I don't want to hurt any of my new friends' feelings, or have them take my jibes the wrong way. I can't remember who coined the term, but I'm Team Eric Who Doesn't Hate Bill (except in the books).

I don't know, the whole encounter just depressed me. I think this writer is funny, and I enjoyed their stuff at the archive -- I should probably just avoid following any links to anybody's journals from now on.

Worst of all, I can't even begin to talk about what happened with Dr. Gates in Cambridge. I mean... DR. GATES. IN CAMBRIDGE. WHERE HARVARD IS. WTF America? Let's just set aside that he's arguably one of the most well-known historical scholars around. Let's forget that he can be seen PRACTICALLY EVERY FREAKING WEEK ON PBS. He's an OLDER GENTLEMAN WHO WALKS WITH A CANE. Srsly, stupid white neighbor? SRSLY? You know what, I don't blame him for being upset and giving the police officer shit. And that he was ARRESTED for it is just... mind boggling. Do you think any of this would have happened to, say, Bill Moyers? I bet you a MILLION FRAKKING DOLLARS that it would not.

W. T. F. America? Post-racial my fat ass.

See why I didn't want to get started?

~

I killed my first baby dragon by accident recently. Well, I mean, it didn't grow up, and there was a Dragon Cave blackout or something... anyway, please visit the red egg and let's see if we can keep it alive this time. Otherwise, it's really depressing.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

What a bugger of a rotten day! I'm going to go read some Gaila fic. Gaila always cheers me up. And WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T TRY CONVINCING ME SHE'S DEAD, OR I MIGHT EAT YOUR FACE.

I only know it's Monday because True Blood was on last night. *G*

Happy birthday, [info]drankmywar! I hope you have a great one!

Speaking of True Blood, here's my rambly, half-sensical commentary! Stop on by [info]trueblood_squee and chat!

Yet another reason why I am completely not into the Kindle craze. I do NOT want somebody to just be able to reach in and TAKE BACK my books. No thanks, I'll stick to trying to find an affordable PDA.

~

So I've been sick the past couple of days. You know, when you just want to stay in bed and do nothing? And while I was convalescing (and not getting any writing done! :() GOSSIP GIRL ATE MY SOUL. I just loved it in all of its wangsty teen soap melodrama GLORY. I totally fell in love with Chuck and Blair. How long is polite to cut for finale spoilers? Meh. Anyway, I fear for their fate next season. We all know Read more... ) This is one of the many dangers of canon shipping, boys and girls. Approach with caution.

One of my favorite series, Being Human, premieres on BBC America this weekend!

Is it really Friday? OMG that means it's almost Sunday! Whee!

RIP Walter Kronkite. I swear, I remember him being on TV when I was practically a baby.

~

I ended up all groggy after my treatment today, so guess what I did? Slept until 8pm! Which means I got NO writing done, and only a few of the icons for I had planned. Of course, part of the problem THERE was that PSP kept crashing, and I got frustrated. Which is when I fell asleep.

Anyhoo, I better get back to work and leave it there tonight. Don't forget, tomorrow is THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FEMSLASH, and I'll be posting goodies throughout the day! Mostly Fuffy, since they're my femslash OTP.

(I've been watching so much Gossip Girl, I'm tempted to sign off "XOXO!" Ugh. That SHOW IS LIKE CRACK.)

Give love to the ladies of fiction!

Please support your favorites! (I'm especially trying to campaign for some of the underdogs I love -- Buffy, Zoe, Uhura, Aeryn, and Starbuck ain't in much trouble of being forgotten. ;) I'm rooting especially for:

Anya!
Pam Ravenscroft (True Blood)
Rachel Morgan (Kim Harrison's Hollows Series)
Bette Porter (The L Word)
Tara Thornton (True Blood)
Eve Dallas (J.D. Robb's In Death Series)
FAITH, BABY!
Irina Derevko (Alias)
Illyria

Sydney Bristow (Alias)

LOL You get the point. Please go through all the pages and support your favorite -- or nominate her if she's not there!

Don't forget, Saturday is International Day of Femslash! I'm currently working on some Fuffy Icons for [info - livejournal.com] idf_iconathon and a story to match!

And while we're on the topic of awesome ladies, I want to draw MUCH more attention to [info - livejournal.com] matrithon -- a ficathon to honor those awesome ladies OVER 40 in fiction. If you're interested in writing a story about an awesome lady of a certain age who kicks ass, Come by and claim a prompt (or three) and a due date (or three)!

HEY! Photobucket dumped my animation of Alex Skarsgard in the shower! You can't see his Business, I don't know what the hell is so offensive about it. I'm going to try and find someplace else to put it so I can share it with you. (It's a huge pic, I'm not uploading it to my teeny free web host.)

Cut because it's a HUGE file and a very sexy naked man. *G* )

Let's see how long it lasts at Tinypic. *G*

~

Heh. It's kind of ironic, ending a post about women characters with an animation of a hot naked guy. Ah, bisexuality, you rule. *G* Now I'm off to feed my new addiction to Gossip Girl. I know, I know. Hey, I never said I was highbrow!
