Day before SPN Day! Whee!

My mom won't read this, but Happy Birthday, mom! I owe you one full day of not complaining about the fact that you spy on the neighbors and threaten to call Homeland Security when the guy across the street flies his Border Patrol helicopter too low. *G*

Happy happy also to [info]lunaelle, maker of pretty journal things!

I know shit about film or whatever, but this meta about the blocking and directing techniques in 3x01 - The Magnificent Seven is fascinating, and definitely backs up what we're all slowly coming to realize about how Dean is coping and how his relationship with Sam is strained because of it.

Onething I found interesting is where Dean keeps trying to run tothroughout this scene. Watch it again and look where he’s headed everysingle time Sam intercepts him. See it?

It’s the Impala. *glee*

Timeand time again we see Dean reverting to the car when he can’t dealdirectly with life.  The Impala is Dean’s escape, his security, hishome, the thing that was there when his family wasn’t. It’s somethingthat can’t die, can’t leave him because he can rebuild it with his ownhands. It’s the one thing Dean has 100% control over; and because ofthis, the Impala is completely safe for Dean. So it’s not surprisingthat it’s the first place he instinctually retreats to when he’sfeeling threatened, vulnerable, or out of sorts.

Hee. Deampala 4EVA!

Random soap note: OMG I LOVE LUKE AND NOAH -- or NUKE, as we call them. Their scenes today were just awesome. You know, [info]svilleficrecs has written some really interesting meta about these two. At first, I was a little uncomfortable with the horrible things they've been forced to go through on the way to getting together, thinking that it was more than a little homophobic, and just a bunch of chicken shit ways to throw barriers in front of the Boy Secks. But [info]svilleficrecs made an excellent point that this is SOAP LAND. Everybody goes through hell to get together -- it's the nature of the beast. And these two are being treated just like any other couple, which is actually better than getting treated with kid gloves like some "Very Special Episode".

Hey! You know what I want to know about SamDean? If they pretty much live in a car and hotel rooms, eating diner food and drinking beer all the time... how the hell do they stay in such awesome shape?

Heh. Not that it matters in the big scheme of things. *G*

So I finally put all my current story ideas into a hat and randomly chose what to do for NaNo next month. I decided to take on The Human Condition, a het vampire romance set in my previously created City of Night (from the as yet unfinished novel of the same name). I was also considering my gay vamp romance and the completely undeveloped "Ordinary Chick Thrown Into Extraordinary Circumstances," but this is what came out of the hat, so I'm going with it. I had actually started this novel back in 2002, but the plot has changed almost completely since then. It's going to be much darker than I was planning last time.

If you're interested in following the progress of this and my other projects, plus occasional whining about how HAAAAARRRRRD it all is, then request to join haf_writing over on IJ. Just comment on the post and friend the community, and I'll approve you. :)

What an excellent day today. I ended up getting up obscenely early to see my parents off, and then I moved all my shit upstairs out of THE PIT and into the living room like a real person, where I got to watch SPN on the BIG TV. Whee! I also seem to be a lot more productive up here -- I suspect because of the natural light, and the lack of THE COMFY CHAIR tends to make me more apt to write. I'm almost done with my Everything But Ficathon fic, and I'm working on outlining my Buffy the Hero fic and doing the outline for my NaNo.

And then a friend of my mom's stopped by, and we chatted for a while. She too has Crohn's Disease, but like, WAY worse than I do. It's nice to have someone to talk to who knows what you're going through. And THEN I was chatting very pleasantly with my beloved [info]thenyxie, when my COUSIN showed up -- who I see maybe once a year. People just don't stop by my house, and today it seems like everybody on the planet did!

Bad post! No donut!

Did you ever notice in Supernatural that even when somebody turns on a light, IT'S STILL DARK? *creepy music* Excellent filming technique.

So far, I'm really loving this show! I was always a fan of creepy cheezy shows like Friday the 13th the Series and Legacy, and the stories in Supernatural really remind me of those. I mean, as far as dealing with the old legends is concerned.

And then there's The Ackles. *sigh*

I'm feeling sort of funny and unwell today. Dizzy and nauseous. I really need to get in and have my blood work done to check out my liver and stuff, but man, it's hard to drag ass all the way in to town just to sit for hours waiting for somebody to spend some time treating me like a pincushion to MAYBE find a vein and draw five billion gallons of blood.

I guess I'd better go tomorrow.

At least it rained today, so it'll cool off some now. Wasn't it fall recently? I wish there was some happy medium where the days don't get shorter, but the heat goes away. A nice 68 degrees all the time.

I've been SO BAD about posting lately! I've been doing more writing, reading, and watching TV than scouring the Internet finding things to share. Or thinking about things to share. Sorry about that! I hope what I'm writing ends up being worth it.

Smallville trailer comment. Entirely unspoilery.

SQUEEEEEEEEEE!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled randomosity.

Saw my cardiologist today. At least there's ONE health area where things are going okay! I have an arythmia, but it's minor, and I haven't had any problems since I was in the hospital last year. So I don't need to go back to see him until NEXT year. Which is sort of too bad, since he's one of my favorites.

I think I've mentioned The Daily Bite before -- it's a newsletter about ways to be green, both big and small. Today's issue was about bio-fuels, which is a hot topic right now in my area (well, Vermont, actually. New York couldn't give less of a shit about the environment), so I thought I would share some interesting links about converting cars to biofuels or buying cars built to use biofuels: Read more... )

I FINALLY saw something about the Jena 6 on NBC. I think this is the first time! But the fact that the authorities and politicians in the town are STILL insisting that there's nothing wrong is... mind boggling. NBC did mention that bloggers were behind the exposure of the case, but they made it sound like only minority bloggers have been following the story. That's too bad, because I've seen ALL KINDS of people, including here in fandom, talking up the case and exposing people to the fact of continuing racial injustice in the U.S. The national news makes it sound like a black issue -- it's not, or at least, not only. It's a HUMAN issue. We should ALL care, no matter our color, religion or national origin, about the misapplication of justice and abuse of power in the U.S. and around the world!
