Slut the magic dragon, lived in my blog, and... didn't really do much of anything, actually.

LJ's Question of the Day: From Dr. Polidori's Lord Ruthven to Stephenie Meyer's Edward Cullen, the annals of vampire lore are filled with attractive, charming bloodsuckers. Which one would you most want to be bitten by?

Okay, everybody knows that one. Actually, I've made a few new friends lately *waves to new friends*, so how about a newly revised TOP TEN HOT VAMPIRES WHO DUCKS WOULD LIKE TO BANG WOULDN'T MIND BEING BITTEN BY?Read more... )

Seriously, I could go on and on and on forever without ever including a Twilight vampire. The father Cullen is kind of cute, but... the fact that nobody in that town ever notices how FREAKING WHITE he is just... throws me out of the fantasy. Oh, and I could make a top ten list of Sherrilyn Kenyon vampires alone, even though they're not really "vampires" per se (but they totally are).

Okay, I'm going to have to do a Top 20, I think. 11-20 Vampires that can bite me. *G* )

Man, I loves me some vampires.

Hahahaha. This little dragon bugger:

Adopt one today!

Her code is "sLUT". That is SO going to be her name somehow.

I am SO happy! I was laboring and laboring and TORTURING myself trying to get my Kris Allen/Alan Lambert RPF done for today, which originally was supposed to be the last day to post. The story has stalled about 1/3 of the way through, and I'm working through the mess, but I need at least a couple more days. Well, I just went to go beg for forgiveness, when I discovered that the new posting deadline is JULY 31! W00t!

Oh boy, I hope this excellent day does not count against my two doctors' appointments tomorrow. *sigh*

~

So what did you guys think of True Blood last night? AWESOME, RIGHT? Come over to [info - livejournal.com] trueblood_squee -- I'm dying to get a discussion going!

~

Don't forget, this week is [info - livejournal.com] ibarw - International Blog Against Racism Week! I haven't decided if I'm going to post, or just comment on links I find. It depends on if this DAMN HEADACHE GOES AWAY and I think of something non-faily I want to say.

~

DRAGONS!

Note to my awesome friends who always pet my babies. Someone mentioned recently that you don't have to click them -- the most important thing is total views. I, uh... don't know what to do about that, but... if you don't mind clicking them, please feel free. I like to pretend I'm petting them.

*sigh*

Zzzzzzzz.

I'm plodding my way through Weeds Season 4 still. MAN does it drop in quality sometime in season 3. No, you know, on second thought... the quality doesn't change, but neither does the story. It's all, "OMG Nancy's gonna get caught! No she's not! Yes she is! No she's not!" and a premise that was completely hilarious, poignant and charming in the beginning is starting to get a little (besides completely unbelievable) "Um... she's sort of a bad mother." Which brings it into icky territory. Plus, I'm annoyed that there's just Baboom! No more Conrad? What? That does not please me. And the season 4 premise was even MORE stupid, which was annoying. If they had stayed with asshole grandfather and bedridden great-grandmother too long I was going to just have to stop. But seriously, now the freaking Mexican mafia? I just don't know.

I wonder how much JDM got paid to appear in a whole like, five minutes of the entire show?

I loved the first like, 2 3/4 seasons, and I adore the music, but man has it gotten tedious. Will someone just shoot Celia in the face already? (Don't tell me if they do later on, I want to CHERISH IT UNSPOILED.)

I WANT CONRAD BACK!

(I actually finished season 4 last night, and I'm still all... WTF? And being the compulsive dork idiot that I am, OF COURSE I have to move onto season 5. *sigh* I have other series I want to catch up on!)

~

Okay, I've done it again. Signed up for Entirely too much fic stuff. But hey, at least I'm writing SOMETHING. I need to get it all down here so I know how much trouble I'm really in.

[info - livejournal.com]femslash_today's Fireworks '09 (Completely Not) Annual Femslash Porn Battle -- Now through Midnight, Friday, July 10
International Day of Femslash - July 18 (I volunteered to make Fuffy icons for this too!)
[info - livejournal.com]paintedboys' Kradam Ficathon - Posting Dates July 20-July 27
[info - livejournal.com]ibarw International Blog Against Racism Week is July 27-August 2, I will probably post, but I'll also be trying to keep track of the conversation and share with you guys.
[info - livejournal.com]matrithon - Posting Dates 9/7-10/5 (I haven't signed up for an exact date yet)
[info - livejournal.com]shapinglight's Darla Ficathon - Posting Date 10/31-11/1

Plus IWRY, CYA, Decade of AtS, and anything else that comes up between now and then, because apparently I've forgotten how to say no. :D

Oh, and I'm also running TWO communities now: [info - community]whedonpr0norama at Dreamwidth (anyone is welcome to post!) and [info - livejournal.com]trueblood_squee over on LJ.

It's a lot, yes, but it's getting me all fired up, and that fire is what I need to get to writing my OWN stuff again!

Of course, now I'm tired and ready for a nap.

I will confess being really pleased with the feedback for my [info - livejournal.com]femslash_today Porn Battle story (Hotbox, Olivia Wilde/Megan Fox RPFS if you're interested. *G*). I haven't written much femslash over the years, and I know absolutely nothing about these two actresses, so hearing that it made people hot made my porny heart very happy.

Hey! Speaking of PORN! *G* You may have noticed I mentioned in passing above my new Dreamwidth community (but anyone is welcome to come over and play using OpenID -- I'll even put up a post there explaining how!), [info - community]whedonpr0norama. I know I tried this over at InsaneJournal, but I really, really love Dreamwidth, and I really, really would love to read some new Whedon porn (not STARRING Whedon. Ew.), so I opened it. I want to do a Porn Battle Dealie over there eventually where all manner of porn will be had in the comments, but for now, everybody and anybody over 18 with some porn involving Whedonverse characters in any pairing, grouping (or hey, all by themselves!) are welcome and encouraged to post there! Please come on over and play!

Don't forget the zero in Pr0n! ;)

~

Oops! I totally forgot to get the garbage together for pick up tomorrow! Hasta La Vista! Please pet my dragons while you're here. *G*

Can we call it HARUMPH! instead of hump day this week? Or *grumblegrumble* or OMG MAKE IT STOP day?

Happy birthday to my very good friend and fellow writer (and lover of all things dark and creepy), [info - livejournal.com]umbra_elf! I hope you have a great day, hon!

~

The dates for this year's International Blog Against Racism Week [info - community]ibarw are July 27 - August 2. I'm definitely going to have a post for it (at least one) -- this year has been a real struggle for me trying to come to terms with and try to change how I deal with my own privilege, and check my unconscious racism.

I know it's not about me. But you know what? Sometimes, for white people, it IS. It's about you and your place in the world, the way you contribute to or fight against oppression and bigotry. You have to look inside yourself and make changes within as much as without. It's as important for yourself as a whole, healthy, loving human being as it is for the people who ultimately benefit from your changes.

Just mho.

~

WOW! True Blood ratings were phenomenal for a cable show! And this doesn't even count people like me who watch it online or download it because they don't or can't get HBO! W00t!

I've seen a few people complaining, but I've long since learned my lesson about that -- I ignore them! *G* Am I an Eric/Sookie fan and a proud member of Team Eric? Yes. Do I therefore think that there's something inherently wrong with Bill/Sookie shippers and Team Bill or Team Sam people? NO. And I'm staying SIX BILLION MILES AWAY from the brewing shipper wars.

I can smell them that far away, you know. It starts with little barely veiled jabs at the male character you don't like as much, or off the cuff negative things abou tthe other pairing. That's when I click "BACK" and RUN!

Ooh! You know what I'm should do? START A SQUEE COMMUNITY like [info]spn_woohoo! No negativity allowed!

Speaking of TV Geekery, Have You Voted in the TwoP Tubey Awards yet?

An interesting conversation about the Obama administrations OFFENSIVE defense (oxymoron?) of DOMA between two people I really admire:

There are a lot of things going on in the world right now, but Obama needs to say something SOON to distance himself from this anti-LGBTQ garbage, or he's going to lose what little credibility he has left in the gay community.

Sign a petition to demand the brief be repealed and an apology be made for its content: http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/doma_brief/?r_by=4580-2019307-_BOm9qx&rc=confemail

Are they fucking serious with this shit? Megan Fox's body as a model of the American Party System? *looks at calendar* What the hell year is this? Thanks, [info - personal]heather11483 for the head's up.

I just... bleurg.

Speaking of objectifying women and rape culture...

There's a fascinating -- and really, really disturbing -- conversation going on at [info - livejournal.com]cereta's site right now about rape, rape culture, and men's responsibility in the matter. It's so weird (and not in the best way) in the years since I've been out of college and the Women's Studies program, I've become much more deeply involved in gay rights than women's rights specifically (even though the two are inexorably intertwined). It's been a while since I thought about this issue. Anyway, I highly recommend this food for thought.

And just so I don't leave you with such thinky thoughts...

Awwww.

"Ooooooh, oooooooh Creepy Girl. My Creepy Girl!"

I owe a big Thank You to alleynyc for turning me on to Ideal Bites. It's a great daily newsletter that gives you tips on small things you can do every day to help the environment.

For instance, did you know that a desktop computer can release 1500 pounds of CO2 a year? There's a program called CO2 Saver that helps manage your computer's power settings when it's idle, and let's you know how much CO2 you've saved from going into the atmosphere. I'm going to give it a try myself, although my laptop powers down when I close it at night. If you have a desktop that you leave running 24 hours a day, it might be a real asset!

And did you know that screen savers also waste energy, and with newer computer screens, are completely unnecessary? The things you learn!

Oooh, here's some fascinating Buffy vs. SPN meta by the ever fascinating [info]yourlibrarian! I'm only a casual viewer of SPN at best, so some of the details escape me, but this is till a fascinating read. Check it out, and make sure to feed back!

~

Hee. I'm watching MST3k's treatment of Catalina Caper. GAWD what an awful movie! It's hilarious even without the running commentary -- those are always the best MST's. And Little Richard! Hee! It's weird that he hasn't changed much in the intervening FORTY YEARS.

~

So I ended up not going out today, because my dad took the Toyota and offered to pick up my meds after work. Who am I to turn down a chance to be lazy? Especially since tomorrow or Wednesday I'm going to have to sit a the blood draw place for three hours waiting to be stuck like a pin cushion. See, thanks to my inbred Puritan ancestry, I am a pasty, veinless wonder. Whenever I go to have blood done, or go for my Crohn's treatment, they always know to call in the EXPERT VETERAN phlebotomy nurse to set me up. When I was last in the hospital, I had two veins collapse, and another got Phlebitis later. Which means it basically got clogged due to damage done to the lining by IV needles.

Because I am delicate. *somehow keeps straight face*

Anyway, everybody else in the blood draw place takes five minutes, while I'm sitting there going, "Ow. Ow. Ow," and watching dozens of people come and go before I'm finished. *sigh*

Top Ten Trivia Tips about ME! )

Hey, you know how I was angsting a while back about writing Gunn? Well, viciouswishes debunks the top ten excuses for not writing him.

~

For some bizarre reason, I have Jan & Dean's "Dead Man's Curve" stuck in my head. And in typing that, I realized, I don't think I own a copy of The Outsiders on DVD!

Please don't ask me how those two things are related. It's a synaptic misfire of some sort, I'm sure, having something to do with Brylcreem.

And another vaguely related random tidbit, I dated a guy in high school whose father used Brylcreem and wore a duckass hairdo.

On that note, please consider bidding for my overpriced fic at fire_fic!

Well, that was a fun way to waste five minutes. I hope they adjust it to work with IJ.

Ongoing Deletegate Business... because it's still interesting, even if my decision and move has already been made. Other discussions about censorship and the current political climate are in here too. Read more... )

Worse, it would appear that the two HP artists who were banned may also have been reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Yes, because those HP artists are dangerous pedophiles and MUST BE STOPPED. As opposed to actual pedophiles and other criminals who get to just go underground as long as they don't post at LJ anymore.

FOR MY FRIENDS WHO WERE LOOKING FOR INFO ON HOW TO PUT RSS FEEDS ON THEIR FRIENDS' LIST. Thanks to [info]thenyxie for the info!

ETA: [info]yourlibrian was kind enough to let me know that you have to be a paid user for the RSS feed thingy to work. Sorry, kids!

On the plus side, I've been successful in all the RSS feeds I've added to my IJ so far!

In totally different news... *G*

Saw two Baby! movies last night: The Hard Easy and Mr. Fix It. Both were fun, but I LOVED Mr. Fix It. I don't think I've ever made a secret of my undying love of cheese, and this movie has it in spades. David has really come a long way since his early Buffy days, I'll tell you. And he is HAWT in this movie, bad blond hair and all. Tonight, we're watching 300. 'Cause you just can't get enough hot half naked men with weapons. *G*

Vacation GOOD! I have no idea how I'm ever going to go back to dialup, though, I can tell you!

~

Between the Migration and Vacation, I've COMPLETELY spaced on International Blog Against Racism week... which is a perfect illustration of the privelige under which I live. Fans of color can't just space about racism, and white fans should work not to. The first step toward change comes through awareness.

At some point this week, I will make a longer, thinky post on the matter, discussing my own racially mixed upbringing and friend groups and how my experience of racism has changed over the years.

For a spectacular round-up of posts made so far, check out the IBARW del.icio.us.
