PORRRRRRRRRRN! (And Beta needed. *G*)

I overslept again today. I completely forgot to set my alarm last night -- the worst time to do it, considering I have no less than three fics I HAVE to have done by tomorrow so I can get them betaed. Two are due Saturday, and one Sunday.

And of course, as usual, I'm feeling completely uninspired. But because I've procrastinated so long, I'm going to force myself to work by shutting off the TV until ALL of them have substantial work done on them. This is the bad thing about porn -- especially erotica. I've got to be in a particular... state of mind, if you know what I mean, for it to turn out well. And lately, in spite of diligent application of HAWT porn stories, it just ain't happening. *sigh*

~

Heh. I got a notice from LJ today telling me my account is expiring soon. Do you think I should hurry up and renew?

Not. *snuggles InsaneJournal*

I wish more people would come over to IJ and play, though! *hint-hint*

I have to say, I'm really tempted to respond to the reminder email, since it ends with "We want to keep you happy. :)" Something like, "Then I suggest you get cracking on that time machine, go back to earlier this year, and tell WFI to go fuck themselves. That you'll protect the right of free expression by your users until the Federal Government comes knocking with court orders. Or at least treat your paying customers with some respect instead of treating them like criminals or naughty children. Or hey, how about NOT painting fandom as pedophiles! Otherwise, I'm afraid it's too late for for your wishes of 'keeping me happy' or even keeping me as a paying customer. I've already moved to another service after four years on LJ."

~

I know there aren't a whole lot of people on my FL from my area, but if you know anybody who is, make sure to tell them about the 3rd Annual Burlington Book Festival, happening from September 14-16 on the Burlington waterfront. I would love to go, but the tickets are a bit out of my price range, and the cost of traveling over there is too much as well. But for those who might be able to make it, Joyce Carol Oates will be appearing on Saturday! Check out the website for more information! http://burlingtonbookfestival.com/

~

OMG! There was a 3.2 earthquake north of here last night. We didn't feel anything, I don't think. Hey, you west-coasters, stop laughing at us. We very rarely get them, and they scare us! Like to see how you'd do with 10 feet of snow dumped on your heads. *pout*

~

So I'm finally getting a rhythm going on Nocturnal Landscaping -- which is a good damn thing, since I have to get it out for beta tomorrow in order to have it ready for the Fluff-a-thon on Sunday. Once this is out of the way, I'll feel more free to read some nice, steamy porn and get "inspired" for the stuff I'm putting together for BRING BACK THE Pr0N DAY on Saturday! You've got your porn ready, right? An icon, a manip, a drabble, Hell, a SENTENCE, as long as it's steamy! *G*

~

And to celebrate my almost finishing THIS ficathon, I have signed up for another! I think everybody else should too -- The Buffy Ficathon over on LJ, hosted by ruuger. It's supposed to be Buffy-centric, and not emphasize the shippiness so much as the awesomeness that is Buffy. Let's show our heroine some love! Check out the "Buffy is the Hero, Damnit!" Ficathon! Sign up's end September 9th!

~

It's done! It's done! The first draft of Nocturnal Landscaping is done! YAY ME! I mean, it's fucking LUSH with purple prosey goodness, but it's smutty fluff, so I'm going to call it good! :) So now I just need someone to beta it! Anyone interested? It's about 3000 words of sweet, morshy B/A goodness!

The richest dog IN THE WORLD, yo!

Wow. Remember a while ago when I gave one of my RIP's to Leona "Queen of Mean" Helmsley? Yeah, well, she's mean EVEN AFTER SHE'S DEAD! Dude, she left twelve million dollars to her dog, and nothing to two of her grandkids. Wowza.

I wonder if that dog is now the richest dog in the world...

~

Ooooh. Cocoa Krispies Cereal Straws look excellent. They're hollow tubes of cereal coated with chocolate on the inside. You're supposed to drink your milk through them, then eat them. Yum.

~

Those of you, like me, who like to link to news stories of interest from around the Internet, may be interested in what [info]liz_marcs found out about LJ's new policy regarding off site links. Apparently, you are responsible for the content of every link you've ever posted on your LJ. *rolls eyes*

~

Well, it's been a much better day today than the last few. I think the restlessness has passed, and I'm ready to focus on normal things again. I have three stories to have done by Saturday, after all! And speaking of Saturday...

From </a></b></a>[info]the_minx_17:

OnSeptember 1, all of fandom here on IJ posts a piece of art or writingthat has some sort of smut factor. It can be implied, it can begraphic, it can be raunchy (I vote for this one *cheeky grin*), it justneeds to be.

Why?

Because after all the censorship issues, fandom needs to bring back the p0rn!

Don't tell me you can't- one sentence, a doodle, all of it will do.

Remember- Bring Back the P0rn - September 01, only on InsaneJournal!

Your Mission is...

(1) Pimp this in your journal
(2) Write or Draw fandom smut
(3) Post on September 01
(4) Comment, Comment, Comment

I'll be posting stuff here, at [info]angel_yay and hopefully [info]ba_ship (all on Insane Journal -- I don't know if I'll be able to post even links on LJ, because some of the fic is FULL OF INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT!). If you're taking part, don't forget -- you can write just a drabble or ficlet, make a hot icon, anything and everything goes, as long as it's PR0NY! If it's Angel related, please feel free to share at [info]angel_yay; if it's B/A, pop it on [info]ba_ship. And don't forget to post your links at the central community: [info]bbtp_challenge!

Let's show 'em we won't let them stunt our personal kinks and perversions!

Please feel free to steal the above banner for pimping -- but no hotlinking, please! :)

~

Hee. Nathan Fillion is the shit, man. NOBODY Expects the Fannish Inquisition! But he doesn't like fanfiction. Poor guy. He doesn't know how hot he can really be! I wish stars would ask fannish types for their favorites before they just go randomly reading crap! Because crap is exactly what you're going to get, Cap'n Tightpants! He also would like to be the Canadian Captain America, which hee. Did you know he auditioned for the part of Angel? I never knew that.

Damn, now I want to watch Firefly again. At this rate, I'm NEVER going to make it through my collection! It's like: movie, movie, movie, FIREFLY, movie, FIREFLY, Angel, movie, movie, Buffy, FIREFLY. Very strange.

"It's okay. I'm a Leaf on the Wind!" "What does that MEAN!?"

Happy Birthday, tiarrajanae ! Hope you have an awesome one!

~

To no one's surprise, I'm sure, I did not make it into the McOffice this morning. I totally forgot to set my alarm, and I didn't get up until after 11! Ugh. Oh well, just the idea of a change in routine like that makes me happy, and I didn't mind getting out of bed at all today. I'm really hoping this will give me the kick in the butt I need to get my writing going again.

I honestly don't know what's going on with me lately. This has gone way beyond a slump, to the point where I'm concerned (irrationally, I know) that I've somehow lost the ability to write. I sat down this morning for about an hour and stared at Nocturnal Landscaping (due Sept. 2), and read what I'd written, added a few more paragraphs, and it SUCKED. I mean... I couldn't get a picture of the scene in my head, I couldn't figure out or describe what Angel was feeling, it was like the ability to write is a limb, and somebody cut that limb off. Even talking about it is making me depressed. *sigh*

~

RIP Leona "Queen of Mean" Helmsely. I certainly hope you find peace in the afterlife. Be nice, though, won't you?

~

You know, you hear all the time about the horrible health care system here in the U.S. How people can't afford to get the care that they need? Well, this story certainly provides a scary worst-case scenario. To what depths can people be driven by the desperation for the very basics of life?

~

Studies like this worry me. As a pain patient who can't function without medication, seeing these broad brush strokes painting painkiller addiction hysteria concerns me a great deal. I do not need to jump through yet MORE hoops of fire than I already do to get my badly needed medication. For example, I can only get one month's supply at a time. I can't have my folks pick up my prescriptions, nor can my clinic call it in to my pharmacy. They have to look me in the face to even give me the piece of paper prescribing it, no matter how sick I am. Every time I call the prescription line at the clinic, I have to justify the amount of medication I've been taking by describing how often and how bad my pain is, and when my last prescription was filled. It's humiliating to be treated like a junkie when I would rather not be taking this crap at all. News stories like this only make things worse, and I'd be willing to bet a million dollars (I don't have) that it does almost nothing to stem the tide of addiction. I've known many addicts in my time, and when they have a jones, you better believe they're going to get their crap, hoops or no. All the regulations do is punish people who follow the rules and actually need the medicine.

Time for my Occasional Community Pimpage! (All the communities below are InsaneJournal Asylums -- just replace livejournal with insanejournal, if you're interested.)

Today, I found [info]five_by_five -- An Asylum for us Faith Maniacs! *dances* There are sadly no posts there yet, but I encourage all of you who love Faith to join and post! *pokes [info]thenyxie*

You know, I was going to say something scathing about anildash because of the discussion here. But then he had to be all reasonable and whatnot, and I couldn't do it.

Aug. 16th, 2007

So. Thursday.

I'm feeling so out of it today. I think the sleep thing... um... lack thereof... is finally starting to take a toll other than a mental one. I've got a sore throat, and I feel so lethargic and sore I can hardly function. Plus I'm feeling sort of depressed and just generally yuck. It's one of those days when I sit down to do something, but I can't really focus enough to get anything done. And I worked really hard last night before bed getting all of my current projects together, figuring out where I am and where I need to be, so I could sit down today and start planning to actually get something done.

Yeah, well, all that's come out of that is a nice pile of paper and the sense that I can't get anything done. I'm so tired, I just want to go back to bed. *sigh*

~

You know it's a bad day when a good LOLCat barely gets a chuckle out of you.

http://blog.esaba.com/projects/catphotos/catphotos.php?image=20480395.jpg

But at least there was a chuckle. Oh gods, will no one cheer me up?

I need more coffee. And sunlight.

~

I was just going to avoid the news entirely today, as it's just as depressing as everything else. More so. Earthquakes, financial markets collapsing, political bullshit. But I did find one positive thing, a sign that sometimes justice can prevail decades after a hideous crime takes place.

Man, 92, to be deported for aiding Nazis.

The story itself is horrible, of course. I mean, we learned about these horrors in school. We hear stories of them among our friends and family. But reading about them, seeing people finally brought to justice for their part, makes it real in a way that no history book or TV special ever could.

~

So, I have a question. Does anybody on ANY of my friends' lists find the Cavemen from the Geico commercials amusing? At all? I'm still flabbergasted that they greenlighted a SERIES about them. I bet they don't make it past the pilot, 'cause dude. It's just not funny. I find them so annoying now that I can't remember if the original joke ever was funny!

~

Man, the IJ server sure is robust today! I'm actually impressed that it's held up as well as it has over the past week, considering the load it's had to pick up! In the literal and metaphorical sense. *G* I have to say, I really love it here so far. [info]squeaky and [info]insanity are the shit, and they really busted their butts to make us feel welcome. They went out of their way to make sure our questions get answered, our issues addressed, and our concerns smoothed over. What other service would bother? Of course there's no guarantee that things will stay this friendly and open forever -- I mean, I'm sure [info]squeaky won't be able to run this place by himself forever, and the more chefs stirring the pot... well, the closer you get to being Live Journal. But for now, I feel comfortable here. The only downside I've seen is that my friends are scattered all over the place, and I'm having a hard time keeping up with two friends' lists on top of everything else I have to do.

But I have to say, feeling like my freedom of expression is safe for the time being is well worth the small hassle of trouble keeping track of things. *snuggles Insane Journal*

I'm slowly working on paring my LJ back to basic status, getting rid of icons (which HURTS -- so far I've only been able to pare down to 33, and I need to get down to SIX) and trying to figure out what format and mood theme I'll use so I can continue cross-posting. I will also be closing down my communities there -- or actually, leaving posts informing people that all activity will be moving to my communities on IJ.

I think from now on you should just add a default lament about the pain and agony of dial-up from now on, kay? *G* I've gotten kicked off at least four times today, at the most inopportune moments. *sigh* Alas. To make myself feel somewhat better, I'm going to begin working my way through the complete Monty Python's Flying Circus collection, which I haven't done in at least a year or two.

Worse, it would appear that the two HP artists who were banned may also have been reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Yes, because those HP artists are dangerous pedophiles and MUST BE STOPPED. As opposed to actual pedophiles and other criminals who get to just go underground as long as they don't post at LJ anymore.

FOR MY FRIENDS WHO WERE LOOKING FOR INFO ON HOW TO PUT RSS FEEDS ON THEIR FRIENDS' LIST. Thanks to [info]thenyxie for the info!

ETA: [info]yourlibrian was kind enough to let me know that you have to be a paid user for the RSS feed thingy to work. Sorry, kids!

On the plus side, I've been successful in all the RSS feeds I've added to my IJ so far!

In totally different news... *G*

Saw two Baby! movies last night: The Hard Easy and Mr. Fix It. Both were fun, but I LOVED Mr. Fix It. I don't think I've ever made a secret of my undying love of cheese, and this movie has it in spades. David has really come a long way since his early Buffy days, I'll tell you. And he is HAWT in this movie, bad blond hair and all. Tonight, we're watching 300. 'Cause you just can't get enough hot half naked men with weapons. *G*

Vacation GOOD! I have no idea how I'm ever going to go back to dialup, though, I can tell you!

~

Between the Migration and Vacation, I've COMPLETELY spaced on International Blog Against Racism week... which is a perfect illustration of the privelige under which I live. Fans of color can't just space about racism, and white fans should work not to. The first step toward change comes through awareness.

At some point this week, I will make a longer, thinky post on the matter, discussing my own racially mixed upbringing and friend groups and how my experience of racism has changed over the years.

For a spectacular round-up of posts made so far, check out the IBARW del.icio.us.
