I am SO excited about this! The 10th anniversary of the premiere of Angel is coming up this October! In honor of that auspicious occasion, a great new community is getting ready to open in July called a_decade_of_ats (on LJ, I haven't figured out how to do the comm code on DW yet, and that's where I cross post from now). Nothing is happening there yet, but it's never too early to sign up and decide what you're going to post when it DOES open. WOOT!

Speaking of my oh so fickle muse, I've been writing a TON lately... but none of it is for my novel, or for fanfic, or FOR anything else, really. It's a lot of opening veins and bleeding on the page pretentious, whiney emo "literary" garbage that no one else will ever read. But it's what wants to come out of me right now, so I'm just going with it and hoping I can get back to the fun stuff soon. I just don't dare try to force any "structured" writing in fear that that fickle little bitch will just split on me again. So I'm writing a lot of bullshit metaphors and stuff about my childhood and blah. Whatevs, it's writing, anyway.

President Obama fails to quell gay uproar

Fails to quell? How about grinds salt and road grime into the wound? I mean, here his is, saying DOMA is discriminatory, RIGHT AFTER HIS DOJ WROTE A BRIEF NOT ONLY DEFENDING IT, BUT EQUATING GAY MARRIAGE WITH INCEST AND MARRIAGE WITH CHILDREN.

WTF, Obama? Now you're offering half benefits, while you're in the middle of "trying to ensure everyone has health care" and you CAN'T OFFER LBGTQ parters health benefits BECAUSE THEY'RE ILLEGAL UNDER DOMA.

Dude, you need to make up your fucking mind. You're just making things worse every time you turn around at this point. If your big time Gay and Lesbian supporters pull out of fundraisers, you and the DMC are in some serious trouble, dude.

There are a lot of apologetics going on right now, saying he has other priorities, it takes time, blah blah blah. I'm not upset that he hasn't repealed DOMA or DADT. That's not the point. I'm not even upset that the DOJ supported DOMA in the recent brief (although there is TONS of precident where the president did NOT support such a law that they wanted to overturn, as Obama kept insisting he did in the campaign). I am upset at the language used, and the fact that that language is not only offensive, it could very well threaten legal gains ALREADY made in our community, and thwart attempts toward future gains as well. He hasn't said a freaking WORD about that brief, which says a whole lot more than a few of the lesser benefits that could be (not necesarily, according to the GOP) allowed under the yoke of DOMA.

Until/Unless he withdraws the brief and acknowledges the offensive language, nothing he does short of completely repealing it is going to appease me. I'm sick of people not being allowed basic civil rights in a country that's supposedly the bastion of such rights.

Yay for the kids today! Of course, that was in Canada. *hugs Canadians* There's an awesome show I watch on CBC on Saturday mornings called Make Some Noise, which is all about Canadian kids doing things to make a difference in the world. Now, I know American kids must be doing stuff like that too, but our news never seems much interested.
